How to resize an image

  1. 1

    Add your image

Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF, or drop it on the box. It opens in your browser and is never uploaded.

  2. 2

    Choose the new size

Type a width or height in pixels, scale by a percentage, or pick a ready-made size for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X or YouTube.

  3. 3

    Pick how it fits

For a different shape, crop to fill the frame, fit the whole image inside it, or stretch it.

  4. 4

    Set the format and download

Choose JPG for photos, PNG for graphics with transparency, or WebP for the smallest web files. Adjust quality, then download.

Resize, crop and compress in one step

Phone photos are often 4000 pixels wide and several megabytes, far bigger than a website, email or social post needs. This resizer shrinks them to the exact size you want, crops them to the right shape, and re-encodes them at a sensible quality, so pages load faster and attachments stay small.

Good to know

  • Shrinking keeps quality; enlarging doesn't add detail. Scaling a small image up makes it softer.
  • Crop to fill keeps the centre of the photo. Use Fit inside to keep everything, with white (JPG) or transparent (PNG, WebP) bars.
  • Logo for your documents? Resize it to around 600 pixels wide as a PNG, then add it to your invoices and quotes.
  • Matching brand colours: build a palette from your logo colour with the colour palette generator.

Frequently asked questions

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is opened and resized by your own browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which also makes it fast for large photos.

Which format should I choose?

JPG for photographs, PNG for logos, screenshots and anything that needs a transparent background, and WebP for websites, where it is usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at the same quality.

How do I make an image smaller in file size?

Reduce the pixel size to what you actually need (a website hero rarely needs more than 2000 pixels wide) and choose JPG or WebP at 75 to 85 percent quality. The result panel shows the new file size and how much you saved.

What are the right sizes for social media?

Common sizes are 1080 × 1080 for an Instagram post, 1080 × 1350 for portrait, 1080 × 1920 for stories and reels, 1200 × 630 for link previews and 1280 × 720 for YouTube thumbnails. They are all in the Social sizes list.

Does resizing remove location data from photos?

Yes. The downloaded file is re-drawn from the pixels only, so camera details and GPS location (EXIF data) are not included.
