Built for trades and building work

Contractor invoices need more detail than most: hours, materials, call-outs and site clean-up. This template starts with all of these itemised, so the client sees exactly what they're paying for and you spend less time answering questions.

Using this template

Replace the example lines with your own job. Bill labour by the hour, or as a fixed price for the job, and list materials separately. If the client has already paid a deposit, enter it as the amount paid and OZO shows the balance due.

Avoid payment disputes

  • Describe the job and site address so there's no doubt what the invoice is for.
  • Agree changes in writing before doing extra work, then add them as their own lines.
  • Send the invoice the day you finish, while the work is fresh in the client's mind.

Quoting for a new job? Start with an estimate, then convert it into an invoice when the client says yes.

Frequently asked questions

Should materials be listed separately on a contractor invoice?

Yes. Itemising materials apart from labour shows the client exactly what they are paying for and makes disputes much less likely. Keep receipts in case the client asks to see them.

How do I invoice for a deposit or stage payment?

Create an invoice for the deposit or stage with a clear description, such as “Stage 1 of 3: first fix”. On the final invoice, list the full job and enter what has already been paid so the balance due is correct.

What payment terms are normal for contractors?

Seven to fourteen days after completion is common for domestic jobs; commercial clients often expect thirty. Agree the terms before you start and print them on the invoice.

Can I create contractor invoices on my phone?

Yes. OZO works in any mobile browser: fill in the invoice on site, download the PDF and share it straight away.
